How to register for Academic and Professional Writing (English 33000; aka The Little Red Schoolhouse)
If you're registering for English 13000/33000 in Winter 2012, you'll need to register for the correct section and check in at each of the first two class sessions. You'll also need to fill out the on-line Student Information form on or before the first day of class (Tuesday, January 3, 2012).
1. Register for the correct section.
- Undergraduates, please register for English 13000 in sections 11-19.
- MAPH students, please register for English 33000 in sections 01-02.
- MAPSS students, please register for English 33000 in section 03-06.
- Other MA programs and Ph.D. programs: please register for English 33000 in sections 07-10.
2. Fill out the student information sheet.
To help us assign you to a writing seminar, please fill out the Student Information Form. We can't assign you to a seminar without this form.
3. Check in on the first TWO days of class.
We check in all students in both the Tuesday and Thursday meeting of first week (January 3 and January 5) in the lecture hall (seminars do not meet in the first week). This allows us to determine which of the registered students will actually be taking the class, so we can assign students to seminars by the end of the first week. If we don't have a record of a registered student's attendance, we'll remove that student from the seminars and add a student from the waiting list.
To ensure, therefore, that you get a space in the seminar after you've registered, please do the following:
1. Please make sure you sign the Plagiarism Statement that we distribute on the first day with the syllabus.
2. Whether you are registered or not, please sign one of the check-in sheets on BOTH Tuesday AND Thursday of first week. If you cannot attend class on Tuesday or Thursday of first week, please email us at writing-program@uchicago.edu to let us know you're still interested in the course.
3. We'll assign students to seminars by Friday afternoon of first week. To find out what seminar you've been assigned to, check Chalk on late Friday afternoon.
4. What if you can't register, or if Cmore rejects your registration?
If the course fills up before you can register, you may fill out the Student Information form to be put on the waiting list.
If you are still interested in the course when classes begin, please fill out a Student Information form . Be sure to check in on both Tuesday and Thursday of first week, as described above. We should be able to let you know by email on Friday of first week whether we've been able to assign wait list students to sections.
If we do have space to move you from the waiting list to a section, you'll still have to add the course officially through the Registrar's office.
