The LRS Student Information Form is no longer required to register for ENGL 13000/33000. It will open as a waitlist for Winter on January 2, 2019.
Winter 2019 Course Times
Attendance at lectures and discussions is required.
Lectures: Thursdays 2:00-3:20pm (in Week 1 only, Tuesday AND Thursday 2:00-3:20pm)
Discussions (Week 2-10): Tuesdays at the following times: 9:30-10:50am, 2:00-3:20pm, and 3:30-4:50pm.
Who may register in the course?
3rd- and 4th-year students in the College may register in discussion sections 14-22.
All graduate students in the following schools and divisions may register in discussions 10-13:
- Humanities, Social Sciences, Biological Sciences, Physical Sciences, Divinity School, Harris School of Public Policy
PhD students in the following schools may register in discussions 10-13:
- Booth School of Business, Law School, Social Service Administration
Professional students seeking master's degrees at Booth, the Law School, or SSA do not automatically have consent to register; they must first place themselves on the waitlist beginning January 2. They will be notified by the end of Week 1 if they have a seat in the course.
MAPSS (sections 1-7), CIR (section 8), and MAPH (section 9) students may register ONLY in their designated section, and not in a general graduate section.
How do I register?
Eligible graduate and undergraduate students may register themselves/bid using my.UChicago. Any student registered in an incorrect section will be dropped from the course; they may re-register themselves in the correct section if space remains.
Most eligible graduate students should register in a "General Grad" section, while MAPSS and MAPH may only register in their specially desginated section. Undergrads should register in an "Undergrad only" section. Please read the course listing carefully.
If you have any questions, please write to firstname.lastname@example.org.
What do I do if I didn't get a spot during course selection?
If the course is full (or if your desired discussion time is full), you may place yourself on the waitlist on this page, which will open January 2. By Friday of Week 1 (January 11), we will notify those on the waitlist if a spot has opened up in their desired section.
In the meantime, we ask waitlisters to attend the first two lectures on January 8 and 10 from 2:00-3:20pm, as we will be taking attendance. The first assignment will be due Sunday, January 13, and discussion sections will begin meeting Tuesday of Week 2 (January 15).
What if I got a spot, but now that discussion time doesn't work for me? Am I still guaranteed a spot?
If the course is still open, and you see an open spot in another section that works for you, you are welcome to switch to that section. However, after January 2, we will close all sections to new registrations. If after that time you learn you have a time conflict, we ask that you drop your spot in the course and place yourself on the waitlist form on this page, where you'll be able to indicate the times you prefer. (Please do not request electronic consent through my.UChicago.) Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee you'd still get a seat. You'll be notified by Friday, January 11 if a space in your desired section time opens up.
