Where writers come to revise

The Writing Program at the University of Chicago is like no other academic writing center.

Our flagship course, Academic and Professional Writing, is open to graduate students and 3rd- and 4th-year undergradates.

Writing support

We offer one-on-one tutoring for undergraduate students as well as writing consultations for faculty and staff. We also offer courses to teach graduate students at the University of Chicago how to become effective writers.

Welcome to the University of Chicago Writing Program

The Writing Program offers credit and non-credit courses, seminars and workshops focused on writing for readers in academic and professional contexts. We offer writing support to all University divisions, schools, and programs, including tutoring for undergraduates, specialized coursework for graduate students, and individualized consultations for staff and faculty. We also provide training in writing pedagogy, as well as employment and professional development opportunities for graduate students interested in the teaching of writing.

Located in the Cathey Learning Center North Reading Room

Our office and many of our teaching activities are based out of the Arley D. Cathey Learning Center North Reading Room, accessible via the third floor of Harper Memorial Library.
